A History Of The Bracelet

The bracelet a piece normally worn on the wrist is usually a seldom-noticed piece of jewelry. Unless the wearer has a piece that is particularly eye catching, the bracelet is regarded as just another fashion accessory. History however tells that this has not always been the case.

During the Paleolithic Era, our Cro-Magnon and Neanderthal ancestors wore bracelets fashioned from pieces of bone, animal skin and teeth and rock. It is believed that these primitive people wore these early bracelets for several purposes. They used them to get rid of bad luck, to ward off evil spirits, and to please the good ones. With the passage of time, the bracelet changed as to how it was made as well as to its purpose.

In the days when knights wore shining armor, the bracelet usually made of metal accompanied the medieval warrior in hi travels. In some cases, the bracelet was made of precious metals and was often a parting gift from some fair lady of the court. As if their elaborate coats of armor were not enough, some gallant knights adorned their armor suits with bracelets to provide them protection when they went into battle. The bracelets relationship to the battleground did not end here.

During World War ll, soldiers returning from battle bought home some very special souvenirs from the battlefield. The soldiers often had the local area craftsmen to fashion trinkets of metal from the area of the battle. These mementos were put on a bracelet and often were given to the soldier抯 loved ones. The bracelet so far has been exposed as a functional item. That too changed long ago.

The bracelet probably did not appear as a fashion statement until it was worn as such by Queen Victoria. This royal ladies wear of charm bracelets is said to have inspired a fashion trend among the European noble classes. The bracelet that had its start as a collection animal sinew, bone and rock has truly evolved into something special.

There are designer bracelets by Gucci or Louis Vitton at the top of the fashion market. They are adorned with diamonds and other precious and semi-precious stones. Bracelets are used to reflect on cultural backgrounds as done by Native American jewelry. There is a huge market for Biomagnetic bracelets that help heal just about anything that ails a body.
